Hilton Head Part Deux

We had such a good time in Hilton Head a few years ago we decided to go again for Fall breaker this year. Unfortunately, Lilly’s college schedule didn’t line up, so we had to go without her this time. Laura rented a condo just off the beach, and I rented bikes. The weather was great, so we ended up going to the beach or riding bikes every day. As much as I am not a beach guy, the weather was great; perfect temperature and it never rained.

Out last few beach trips have turned into archeological expeditions to find shells and the ever elusive shark teeth on the beach. This time was no different. We found a lot of sand dollars this year and Laura “found” a couple of shark teeth. I’m pretty sure she “found” them on Amazon and planted them to mess with me. My record of never finding a shark tooth is still in tact.

When we weren’t at the beach we were riding bikes around the island. They have miles of trails that go around most of the island. I bet we rode 50-60 miles while we there. Katie and I probably rode another 5-10 after taking a “shortcut”. On one of the rides back to the condo, we rode on the beach. Pro-tip: Riding against the wind on the beach is ENTIRELY different than riding with the wind on the beach. We had about 2 or 3 miles left to go riding against the wind, so Katie and I reasoned it would be easier to ride on the streets than the sand. Laura stayed the course on the beach; Katie and I pivoted to ride the streets. Problem is, we had to go backwards a little before finding access to the road from the beach then found out from that point there was no direct path back. About 10 miles later, and a short pit stop at a golf pro shop, we made it back to the condo where Laura had been waiting for almost an hour.
