Paul got the world’s coolest Father’s Day gift from Lilly and I, and we got to taste it for the first time this weekend. Paul got a home brew kit to make his own beer, and it turned out great! He added a little too much sugar, and we thought that the beer might be ruined. To our surprise it wasn’t ruined at all, and it was just a little more carbonated than usual! It seems easy enough to brew your own beer from home because it requires almost zero attention other than the initial combining ingredients and then bottling. It takes about a month to be ready, and we have the perfect spot in our basement to store it while we wait for it to finish. Paul built some shelving units for food storage and other storage, and the beer has nicely made a home on one of the shelves!!!! We’re going to be trying a couple new flavors to see which ones are the best, and hopefully we can get them to perfection! Yum! Yum!
This starter mix “West Coast Pale Ale” is actually pretty good. As Laura mentioned I don’t know how much my mistake with the sugar played a part of the final taste, but I am quite pleased and we have already ordered two more recipes. Laura chose a rasberry high country canadian draft and I chose a pumpkin west coast pale ale. I’m sure we will comment on these compared to our most recent super sugary west coast pale ale.
There is a place here in Fayetteville that deals with all that stuff called You Brew It or U Brew It. I have gone there to get parts for my tap system and the guy is really knowledgeable. Next time you guys are in this part of the woods you should check it out. It is on Hwy 85 just past 279 going towards Riverdale on the left.
